AU/CIEFFA YOUTH CAPACITY BUILDING WORKSHOP ON GIRLS’EDUCATION IN AFRICA

The African Union/International Centre for Girls’ and Women’s Education in Africa (AU/CIEFFA) is a specialized institution of the African Union since 2004, dealing with women’s and girls’ education. The centre is located in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.
The two previously organized capacity building workshops respectively held in Ethiopia and Tunisia; this year, the 3rd batch of the Workshop will take place in Accra, Ghana from 26 to 29 November 2019 under the theme: “Young Women’s Leadership to Advance Girls’ and Women’s Education in Africa”.

This 3rd Capacity Building workshop for African Youth will put special emphasis on specific objectives including the following:
i. To inform and sensitize the youth on the state-of-play of issue of girls’ and women’s education in the continent despite various efforts made by African countries.
ii. To understand the obstacles and barrier hindering girls to access and stay at school until she completes her higher education to address girls and women’s education.
iii. To deepen their knowledge on gender stereotyping in studying and job sector usually affected more by boys and men such as the STEM, ICT, TVET Male-dominated jobs.
iv. To equip them with some advocacy tools such as leadership, entrepreneurship, negotiation, public speaking as efficient weapons to facilitate their work within the community as girls ‘education’s Champions.
v. To build a strong network of African young women and men sharing the same vision to change the mindset on gender equality and equity in the educational system by 2063!

The workshop aims to bring together young women and men who will be representatives of the 5 regions of Africa. The participants will be selected through a call for applications open to all based on the selection criteria as follows:
• Young African (women and men) aged 21 to 35-year-old;
• Young girls and men with educational/professional background or interest in one of the above-mentioned sector/field or any other relevant field.

MTN MPULSE ESSAY COMPETITION

Deadline: 8th October 2019
In commemoration of the 2019 International Day of the Girl Child celebration, MTN invites all primary and secondary school students in Nigeria to participate in a short essay competition. In line with the theme of this year’s celebration- Girl Force: Unscripted and Unstoppable, the essay competition aims to encourage discussions on the empowerment of the Nigerian girl child.
Topic: In what ways can the Nigerian girl be empowered to become unstoppable?

ELIGIBILITY:
Competition is open to both boys and girls in primary and secondary schools in Nigeria.
Applicants must be resident in Nigeria.
The essay must not exceed 200 words.
10 winning essays will be selected and exciting gift items will be awarded to the winners. Gift items include smartphones, mPulse school bags, headphones, t-shirts, math sets, water bottles, etc.

ONLINE COURSE ON FARM DATA MANAGEMENT, SHARING AND SERVICES FOR AGRICULTURAL DEVELOPMENT.

The Technical Centre for Agricultural and Rural Cooperation (CTA) and Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations together with the Pan African Farmers’ Organization (PAFO) are pleased to call for applications for a new online course “Farm Data Management, Sharing and Services for Agriculture Development”.  This online course will support the work of professionals involved in using or managing data services for the benefit of farmers and farmer’s organizations. These professionals work in a wide range of organizations, including international organizations, donor agencies, multilateral, NGOs, academic and research institutions, universities, national or local governments.


The main target audience groups include:
Those who are involved in farmers’ organizations as administrators or staff i.e. those collecting farmer data and managing the data; and Development practitioners and technology providers, who, also, assist farmers’ organization setting up farmer profiling and creating data services.

The course creates awareness of data on and for farmers as well as the products and services that have become a growth area, driving expectations and investments in ICT4ag including e-extension, precision agriculture and digital financial services. The course furthermore highlights shared data principles, including FAIR and open data conceptual frameworks, while also emphasizing the legal and responsible ethical considerations for data rights and protections.


By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
Understand the value of data, the different types and sources of data and identify the type of services that data enables in agriculture.
Understand how data is used and generated in the value chain understand the challenges and risks that smallholders face when sharing data
Understand the strategies related to farmer profiling.
Understand how and where to find open data.
Apply data analysis and visualization techniques understand the legal and policy aspects when dealing with farmers’ data sharing.
Understand the basics of licensing, copyright and database rights
The course is free of charge and is offered in 4 weeks in English. It will take place twice in two editions, one starts in October and second starts in November before the end of the year.
