Odinaka King; King Of Resilience!

Thegod Whowrites

Odinaka King is a KIR Foundation 2018 NDYEP Phase 1 Trainee. He was among the best ten trainees in the phone and computer repairs and maintenance training. After the training, he was given a tool kit and a laptop to start his small repair and maintenance business in 2018.

Despite all the challenges he has encountered in running his business, he never imagined that a global pandemic like COVID-19, would force him to stay at home without earning an income, but Odinaka was able to fall back on his savings from the business last year. Although many businesses have been forced to fold up, Odininaka has been resilient, showing up for work, attending to his customers and making enough to get by. Odininaka has not allowed his disability, environmental or a global pandemic like COVID-19 hold him back. KIR Foundation is truly inspired by this King of Resilience!

International Youth Day 2020

Youth Engagement for Global Action 2020

What does it mean to be a youth?

Youths are people (age 15-35) who actively grow themselves to become responsible people of society.

Every youth has the power to change the narrative of where they are for the better.

On the 12th of August 2020, @kirfoundation commemorated the International Youth Day 2020 with 22 youth in attendance. The theme of the event was "Youth Engagement: How youth can play a critical role in societal issues" and the guest speakers for the day were Enoh Ogbevire, a media consultant and voice actor, and Gino Osahon, the hub manager at Ken-Saro Wiwa Innovation Hub.

The event streamed on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

Gino Osahon, who spoke on the topic "Youth Civic Engagement in a Digital Age", addressed the youth about the high demand for skillsets needed to proffer solutions to the problems society faces.

His call to action to them was for them to use technology to rewrite the negative narrative about themselves globally and that they need to hone their skill in the global market.

The second speaker, Enoh Ogbevire, spoke on "Youth Engagement in Grassroot Issues" and urged them to use their voice as a medium to cause a positive change in their society.

Some of the youth in attendance, like Kindness, shared their experience in the program and how they had benefited from it.

She Code Africa Mentoring program - Cohort 3 Applicants Technical assessment

The She Code Africa mentoring program is a 3months cohort-style, an intensive program specifically designed to pair experienced individuals excelling in their specific tech fields with beginners in need of a guide and learning path while helping them grow in required ways in their career fields.
The technical assessment provides us with an idea of the learning efforts you have put in towards your learning journey for your chosen track.

Despite significant investment and resolutions around power generation and distribution, over 60% of users in Lagos are estimated to still be unmetered and this affects the last-mile distribution to customers. The inability to resolve this not only prevents the supply of constant and stable electricity but causes significant revenue leakage and adversely affects the trust the people have in the system.
Eko Innovation Centre (with the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources as Title Sponsors) is promoting efforts to provide affordable meter to the populace by facilitating a meter design hackathon to improve energy distribution, monitoring and preventing revenue leakage.
