WOLE SOYINKA AWARD FOR INVESTIGATIVE REPORTING FOR NIGERIAN JOURNALISTS

Application Deadline: Thursday, 24 October 2019 by 4 pm.
The Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism (WSCIJ) invites entries from Nigerian professional journalists or team of journalists, full-time or part-time, for its 14th edition.
The centre has introduced an online application option for some categories of the award for this edition.
The award, which is an annual programme of WSCIJ, seeks to honour journalism works with a focus on public and or corporate corruption, human rights abuses, or failure of regulatory agencies, published or aired between 4th October 2018 and 3rd October 2019.
This year, applicants for the Television, Radio and Online categories of the award can put in their entries through an online application process. The other three categories requiring hard copy submission given the nature of entry processing, are the Print, Photography and Editorial cartoon.
Received entries will be collated using the award coding system and assessed by a panel of media experts and related professionals with a good understanding of investigative reporting. The judges’ board would broadly score submitted stories based on the quality of investigation, evidence, human rights elements, ethical reportage, courage, individual creativity, public interest, impact and quality of presentation.

Experience in development platforms such as HTML5 - Microsoft .Net, Microsoft .Net (Services and Windows), Linux, Java, Mobile Development (IOS), Mobile Development (Android), HTML5 - SAP Application Development, Service - SAP Application Development, COTS (Commercial Off the Shelf Software)
Ability to develop software in Java, Ruby on Rails, C++, Python or other programming languages
Excellent knowledge of relational databases, SQL and ORM technologies (JPA2, Hibernate)
Experience developing web applications using at least one popular web framework (JSF, Wicket, GWT, Spring MVC)
Proficiency in software engineering tools
Knowledge of Oracle Database 11g/12c or the latest version, Microsoft SQL Server 2014/2016 or the latest version, and awareness of HANA Database, Sybase database, SAP Solution Manager, Linux/Windows/Scripting, and ITIL.

The MIT-Empowering the Teachers (MIT-ETT) program at MIT strives to foster innovation in science and engineering education in tertiary academic institutions in Africa through an intense engagement with faculty members from African universities. NNPC/TOTAL is the corporate partner and sponsor of this program.
There are two main objectives of the MIT-ETT program: to provide young African professors with exposure to cutting-edge pedagogical methods in the highest-rated engineering and science departments in the U.S. and to provide American faculty who have a deep interest in connecting with those in their disciplines in emerging economies a concrete means of engagement.

During their semester at MIT, Fellows do the following:
observe instruction in their own disciplines & subjects
interact with MIT faculty teaching in their own disciplines & subjects

THE NIGERIAN ECONOMIC SUMMIT GROUP (NESG) BRIDGE FELLOWSHIP 2019

The Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG) in conjunction with LEAP Africa is pleased to announce the NESG Bridge Fellowship. The NESG Bridge Fellowship is a merit-based fellowship jointly designed and administered by the NESG, a private sector Think-Tank and Policy Advocacy Group, and LEAP Africa, a youth-leadership development non-profit organization.
The NESG Bridge Fellowship is designed to inspire and equip a new generation of young visionary Nigerian leaders, with the skills to carry out policy-oriented research and advocacy for national transformation. Selected participants will undergo a rigorous and engaging capacity development process where they will contribute to knowledge production and policy at the national level.

Fellows will conduct their policy research and advocacy activities in-line with the Nigerian Economic Summit Group’s (NESG) 11 policy commissions, which include: Energy, science and technology, manufacturing and solid minerals development, agriculture and food security, infrastructure and logistics, human capital development, governance and institutions, trade investment and competitiveness, finance financial inclusion and financial markets, sustainability and tourism, hospitality, entertainment and creative industries policy commissions.
Selected applicants will be enrolled in an 18-month fellowship during which they will develop leadership, research and policy engagement skills and competencies; participate in policy research and advocacy work, as well as implement social impact projects. These professionals will be drawn from across the 36 states of Nigeria from academia, the private, public and development sectors through a stringent selection process.
By the end of the fellowship, fellows will
Have a deep understanding of the policy-making process.
Be confident to lend their voices to policy discourse.
Be able to represent the private sector in policy discourse.
Be part of a community of young change-makers in the policy space.

Eligibility:
The NESG Bridge Fellowship is open to young Nigerians who meet the following criteria:
Are between the ages of 25 and 40 on or before the application deadline, although exceptional applicants ages 20-24 will be considered.
Are Nigerian citizens who are permanent residents within the country.
Are not employees or immediate family members of employees of the NESG or LEAP Africa.
Can undergo rigorous research training for 18 months.
Are proficient in reading, writing, and speaking English.
Have demonstrated a consistent interest in research and public policy, community development, social work, business and/or social entrepreneurship
The NESG and LEAP Africa reserve the right to verify all of the information provided in the application. If there is a discrepancy, or information is found to be false, the application will immediately be declared invalid and the applicant ineligible.
