ROLEX AWARDS FOR ENTERPRISE

For more than four decades, through the Rolex Awards for Enterprise, Rolex has supported exceptional individuals who have the courage and conviction to take on major challenges; men and women who have a spirit of enterprise, initiating extraordinary projects that make the world a better place.

Created in 1976 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Rolex Oyster, the first waterproof watch and an important milestone in watchmaking, the Rolex Awards foster the values that underpin Rolex: quality, ingenuity, determination and, above all, the enterprising spirit that has driven the company since its beginning. From the start, the Awards were designed to fill a void in corporate philanthropy by supporting exceptional individuals around the world, pioneers who had no or little access to traditional funding and were responding to major challenges with original and innovative projects that advance human knowledge and well-being.

WORTH

Laureates each receive 200,000 Swiss francs to advance their projects.

Laureates will also benefit from worldwide publicity and receive a Rolex chronometer.

ELIGIBILITY

The Awards are open to anyone over 18 years of age, of any nationality, whose groundbreaking project is helping to expand knowledge of our world and improve the quality of life on the planet.

Candidates can apply in five areas: science and health, applied technology, exploration, cultural heritage and the environment.

SHORT STORY DAY AFRICA

Short Story Day Africa wants your stories of change, protest, destruction, adaptation, disruption and recreation. Stories that explore how changing climates affect us, our adaptations to the environment, and the innovations that bring us hope.

In 2019, Short Story Day Africa is seeking short fiction exploring disruption, especially but not limited to climate and environmental disruption.

WORTH

First prize: $800

Second prize: $200

Third prize: $100

ELIGIBILITY:

Any African citizen or African person living in the diaspora*, as well as persons residing permanently (granted permanent residence or similar) in any African country, may enter.

Writers may only submit one story for the competition. Repeat entries by the same writer will result in disqualification.

Writers are welcome to submit stories in any fiction genre.

Stories must be relevant to the theme, although we do encourage creative interpretations.

Stories must be between 3000 and 5000 words in length.

Submission of Stories must be in English. While you are free to incorporate other languages into your story, the story must be able to be understood fully by its English content.

THE CAINE PRIZE FOR AFRICAN WRITING

The Caine Prize for African Writing is a literature prize awarded to an African writer of a short story published in English. The prize was launched in 2000 to encourage and highlight the richness and diversity of African writing by bringing it to a wider audience internationally. The focus on the short story reflects the contemporary development of the African story-telling tradition.

WORTH

Winning and short-listed authors will be invited to participate in writers’ workshops in Africa, London and elsewhere as resources permit. There is a cash prize of £10,000 for the winning author and a travel award for each of the short-listed candidates (up to five in all). The shortlisted candidates will also receive a Prize of £500. The winner is also invited to go to three literature festivals in Kenya, South Africa and Nigeria.

ELIGIBILITY

Unpublished work is not eligible for the Caine Prize.

Publishers only should make submissions.

Only fictional work is eligible.

Only one story per author will be considered in any one year.

Submissions should specify which African country the author comes from and the word count.

We require 6 copies of the work in its originally published version.

If the work is published in a book or journal, we would like to receive at least one copy of the book/journal and five photocopies; but particularly where several stories are submitted from one anthology we would like if possible to receive six copies of the book/journal itself.

If the work is published online, Caine would like to receive six photocopies.

CHEVRON NIGERIA 2020 JANUARY – JUNE INTERNSHIP PLACEMENT FOR YOUNG NIGERIANS

Chevron Nigeria Limited (CNL) provides temporary employment to university, polytechnic and high school students required to participate in mandatory learning programs to gain work experience in their chosen career and provides opportunities for interns to learn about the company’s business, culture and core values.
Chevron is accepting online applications from qualified Nigerian students whose internship program commences from January – June 2020. Placement is available in the Lagos and Warri office.
Only Nigerian undergraduates schooling in Nigeria are required to write the tests.
